I attended the University of Texas at Austin from 2013 to 2017. In my four years at UT two students were murdered and countless students were assaulted and/or threatened (myself included) without UTPD or DPS doing anything to help. I watched as the state promoted the open carry of guns on campuses while dildos were banned. After graduation, I watched as DPS did nothing as Uvalde students were murdered in classrooms. Today, I watch as DPS apprehends and assaults protestors at UT that are peacefully protesting the genocide of Palestinians. I’ve watched Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz advocate for first amendment rights, including the right to free speech (specifically on college campuses) and as they now advocate for the arrest of students doing exactly that. I will always love Texas and I will always be a Texan, and more than anything I will always be an advocate for the future generations of Texans that are currently in colleges and high schools all around the state. I am so proud to see all of them stand up for what is right in the face of Government officials telling them that it’s wrong.
I stand with the people of Gaza today and every day.
